Alpha Prototype
First Prototype
For the alpha prototype of the project, all subsystems were prototyped. The subsystems were tested individually before they were integrated together in the beta prototype.
Testing the motor with the existing steering system. The motor was prevented from rotating with a steel bar. The motor power and direction was controlled with a single-pole and 4-way light switch.
To test the motor, this piece was manufactured to joint he shaft coupler and the wheel hub with a standard 1.75" 3-bolt pattern.
Shaft coupler that joins the motor shaft and the testing adapter (and eventually the new rack pinion shaft).
Three pieces of shaft coupler open to show the different bore sizes inside. These pieces were manufactured in their entirety by the group.
The steering column assembly.
The steering rack assembly.
This board is a testing device to show proof of concept for the steering input.
Testing the steering input. The LEDs were turned on to match the angular position of the steering column.
The completed microcontroller board.
Breadboard prototype of the motor driver circuit. This circuit was tested on the breadboards first to ensure proper function of the logic, gate drivers, and MOSFETs.
